EXCERPT from goodreads.com:
Emily’s dad is in the military and sometimes he has to leave for months at a time. Emily knows her dad’s job is important, but she doesn’t want him to leave. Written by the wife of a Navy pilot, this realistic story is complemented by Steele’s stunning paintings. Full color.
Rationale for Inclusion: In keeping with our theme of providing children with books that can be used as mirrors into some of the hardships that they have to contend with, this book offers a detailed account of some of the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and lifestyle changes that children may be experiencing when a parent leaves for months at a time to serve in the military overseas. In light of the global conflicts taking place in our world today, I felt that it would be important to include a book that dealt with this unfortunate reality that an increasing number of children are faced with.
